Schrödinger Invariance and Strongly Anisotropic Critical Systems

چکیده
The extension of strongly anisotropic or dynamical scaling to local scale invariance is investigated. For the special case of an anisotropy or dynamical exponent θ = z = 2, the group of local scale transformation considered is the Schrödinger group, which can be obtained as the non-relativistic limit of the conformal group. The requirement of Schrödinger invariance determines the two-point function in the bulk and reduces the three-point function to a scaling form of a single variable. Scaling forms are also derived for the two-point function close to a free surface which can be either space-like or time-like. These results are reproduced in several exactly solvable statistical systems, namely the kinetic Ising model with Glauber dynamics, lattice diffusion, Lifshitz points in the spherical model and critical dynamics of the spherical model with a nonconserved order parameter. For generic values of θ, evidence from higher order Lifshitz points in the spherical model and from directed percolation suggests a simple scaling form of the two-point function.

Phenomenology of local scale invariance : from conformal invariance to dynamical scaling
Statistical systems displaying a strongly anisotropic or dynamical scaling behaviour are characterized by an anisotropy exponent θ or a dynamical exponent z. For a given value of θ (or z), we construct local scale transformations, which can be viewed as scale transformations with a space-time-dependent dilatation factor. Two distinct types of local scale transformations are found. The first typ...
متن کاملA New Scheme for Anisotropic Di usion: Performance Evaluation of Rotation Invariance, Dissipativity and EÆciency
For strongly directed anisotropic di usion ltering it is crucial to use numerical schemes with highly accurate directional behaviour. To this end, we introduce a novel algorithm for coherence-enhancing anisotropic di usion. It applies recently discovered di erentiation lters with optimal rotation invariance [11], and comes down to an explicit scheme on a 5 5 stencil. By comparing it with severa...

متن کاملCritical Behavior at M-axial Lifshitz Points
An introduction to the theory of critical behavior at Lifshitz points is given, and the recent progress made in applying the field-theoretic renormalization group (RG) approach to φ nvector models representing universality classes of m-axial Lifshitz points is surveyed. The origins of the difficulties that had hindered a full two-loop RG analysis near the upper critical dimension for more than ...
متن کاملIntroduction to Schramm-Loewner evolution and its application to critical systems
In this short review we look at recent advances in Schramm-Loewner Evolution (SLE) theory and its application to critical phenomena. The application of SLE goes beyond critical systems to other time dependent, scale invariant phenomena such as turbulence, sand-piles and watersheds. Through the use of SLE, the evolution of conformally invariant paths on the complex plane can be followed; hence a...
